Travel and Terrain Advice

Look out for storm slabs formed by snowfall until midnight. Try to climb high using loose terrain. Also Pay attention to the strength and direction of the wind. The wind-borne snow accumulates on the leeward slopes, forming wind slabs. They stabilize over time, but freshly made wind slabs are very easy to crack. Please try to find a place where the slope is loose when entering the leeward slope in order to keep out the wind. The place where snow that makes you want to slip is also a place where today's worries are accumulated. The most effective means for avalanche safety measures is to “reduce the slope”. If it is a simple and slightly sloped slope with no “terrain trap” below the slope, you will be able to safely glide through pleasant fresh snow. Have a nice day with group management that makes good use of the terrain.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (2nd), it was reported that multiple size 2 surface avalanches spontaneously occurred around 1600m.

Snowpack

The large amount of snow brought about by the stormy weather that lasted until 1 day quickly settling and stabilized. Due to yesterday's insolation and temperature rise, the surface melted on the sunshine slope in the low elevation zone. On it there was a snowfall from the afternoon to midnight yesterday, and the new snow cover brought by it is placed 10-30 cm. There tend to be many on the south side of Hakuba Valley. Snowfall for 12 hours at 750m in Hakuba village is 14 cm.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is expected to have a winter-type atmospheric pressure arrangement centered in northern Japan for the northern part of Nagano prefecture, and it is expected to be affected by the chills and barometric valleys in the sky. For this reason, there are places in the north where it is cloudy and sometimes sunny, and snow falls mainly in the morning and evening, and it is forecast to snow in a wide range late at night. At AMeDAS Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -2.9℃ (as of 5:00).
