Travel and Terrain Advice

It is a day when avalanche conditions are high in certain terrain. Please set a careful route on the premise that snow in stormy weather has not yet increased its strength sufficiently. While climbing, look for the effects of the nocturnal wind that blew near the main ridge line. The depth of the russell and the feeling transmitted from the soles of the feet also give a sense of the formation of the slab. Being aware of changes leads to safer actions. Avoid convex terrain where the formation of slabs can be seen, or large open slopes that are strongly affected by solar radiation. At low elevations, glide cracks are hidden by this snowfall. Please try to imagine what is likely to lie beneath the snow. If it is a simple terrain with a weak wind effect and no “terrain traps”, you will enjoy good fresh snow. Have a safe day

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (6th), multiple point or surface avalanches of size 1 were observed and reported by human stimulation in the below treeline. In addition, many shooting cracks have been reported. Due to stormy weather, there are no observation data at high elevations.

Snowpack

The snowfall fell at night, but there was a storm of westerly winds near the main ridge until the early hours. The amount of snow this time is about 70 cm in the northerly below treeline of Hakuba Valley, where there was a lot of snow. It is necessary to be wary of vulnerability in fresh snow or slabs due to strong winds from last night. On a steep slope with a low elevation and a strong influence of solar radiation, there is a melting and freezing layer under the snow this time, and the bonding condition is high in uncertainty.

Weather

The Meteorological Agency forecasts northern Nagano prefecture with northern winds, cloudy weather, occasional sunny weather, snow in some places, and a maximum temperature of 1℃ (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -6.2℃ (as of 5:00), and there is almost no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
