Travel and Terrain Advice

Note the instability that remains in certain topographic localities. Please note that the Alpine area continued to experience moderate northwesterly winds until this morning, which will result in the formation of new slabs. A slab that feels hard and stable in the morning may also be more likely to be induced in the daytime on the surface that is heavily exposed to solar radiation. Please pay attention to the temperature and solar radiation. At low altitudes and on the slopes facing south, glide cracks are developing, in some places they are hidden by previous snowfalls. Try to spot wrinkles that appear on the snow surface by observing the surroundings, and avoid such places. The condition of the ski is in good condition. I hope it will be a fun weekend.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (11th), a human-induced surface avalanche of size 1-1.5 or a shooting crack was reported on a steep slope formed by a windslab. In addition, point avalanches of size 1 were observed in the steep terrain on the north side, which was not affected by the wind.

Snowpack

It was reported yesterday that there were small point-generated avalanches caused by snow with weak coupling force shaken by low-pressure clouds, and surface generated avalanches due to their movement by wind. Since it is currently cooling down due to radiative cooling, in places with very steep terrain and no wind effects, the scale will be smaller than the previous day, but please consider that point avalanches can occur. On the other hand, those who raise the elevation should pay attention to the fact that the influence of solar radiation is stronger today than yesterday, and whether the southerly winds are coming in. It is often the case that even a hard slab in the morning is easily induced by the influence of solar radiation.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, rear, northern winds, sunny, sometimes cloudy, and a maximum temperature of 4℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -10.5℃ (as of 5:00), and there is no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
