Travel and Terrain Advice

Point-generated avalanches of wet snow are so heavy that they can easily cause injury, etc., even if they are small. I also scoop my feet and make them fall. Even in the forest, if there is a “slope”, it will occur, so if it is washed away, the tree will increase its damage. Rainfall is increasing the risk of all-layer avalanches on slopes with glide cracks. Try to avoid slopes with glide cracks. Today I recommend a spring shaba-yuki glide on the slopes.

概要

Avalanche

An all-layer avalanche of size 1 was observed yesterday (13th) in the below treeline.

Snowpack

On the steep slope facing the south, it is sufficiently wet to the deep position of the snow cover surface layer, and the strength decreases. The rainfall from this morning has been added here. Positive temperatures have continued since yesterday at the foot of the mountain. Also, strong westerly winds are blowing near the main ridge line, but the temperature is positive, which has a strong impact on the state of snow cover. In the future, even if it changes to snowfall at high elevations, please consider that the fresh snow immediately after that is in an unstable state.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts northerly winds, cloudy, sometimes sunny, and high temperatures of 17°C (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is 2.5℃ (as of 5:00), and there is no new snowfall in the past few days. At 14:00 yesterday (13th), 10.7 degrees Celsius was recorded at the foot of the mountain.
