Travel and Terrain Advice

At high altitudes, it seems that fresh snow is slightly placed on top of the hard and frozen snow surface, so please be wary of slipping, regardless of whether you are a mountaineer or a runner. Also, if there is a place where fresh snow is blowing up due to strong northwest to north winds, please check the state of connection with the old snow. Even if the snow does not move enough to become an avalanche, there is a very hard snow surface underneath, so don't forget that if you scoop your feet lightly, it can be like a slide down. Even if the weather recovers, the temperature does not rise, so it is likely to be a chilly day. Have a safe day

概要

Avalanche

There were no new avalanche observations reported yesterday (3/31).

Snowpack

Yesterday, there was light rain at low altitudes, and the snow cover was sufficiently wet. At high altitudes, it became sleet, and it seems that there was some snowfall (about a few centimeters) at night. Since last evening, the temperature has dropped significantly at high altitudes, and it has fallen below -10 degrees Celsius on the main ridge line. Also, since very strong northwest to north winds are blowing, the snow surface is hard and frozen.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is predicting northerly winds, cloudy weather, sunny from early morning, and a high temperature of 7℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -0.2℃ (as of 5:00). Also, yesterday (31st), a high temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at the foot of the mountain at 9 o'clock, and there was 3 mm of precipitation during the day.
