Travel and Terrain Advice

The temperature rise above yesterday is forecast, and it is likely to be a hot day. Don't underestimate the risk of point generation avalanches caused by wet snow. Wet snow is very heavy and easily scoops underfoot. If there is a “terrain trap” such as a cliff below, it will be immediately fatal. On the other hand, it is easy to recognize the situation that the intensity of snow on the snow surface decreases and point-generated avalanches are likely to occur, so please choose a safer terrain when you notice it. Also, there are people who climb mountains in spring by filling the swamp terrain (for example, Harinokisetsukei and Hakuba Daisetsukei). Since it is in the “avalanche terrain”, even if the risk of avalanches is low, the risk is high because it is exposed to hazards (avalanche hazards) for a long time. Consider the possibility of a different route (terrain selection). Many spring avalanche accidents in snowy valleys are caused by avalanches that occurred far above me. Today, we will end this season's avalanche information. Thank you very much for using it.

概要

Avalanche

A point occurrence avalanche of size 1 wet snow has been reported yesterday (5th). There were few people entering the mountain, and there were only a few reports.

Snowpack

The snow cover is in a state of snowmelt season as seen in usual spring. At low altitudes, scalp exposure increases, snow removal proceeds rapidly, snow bridges collapse, and swamps are cracking. Even if the elevation is raised, it becomes rough snow with repeated thawing and freezing, and although it is hard in the morning, it gets wet during the day and its strength decreases, and point generation avalanches occur. It is difficult to determine the condition of a glide crack that has elapsed since the crack occurred, and keeping a distance from it is the best safety policy.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts northern wind, cloudy weather, morning to evening, sunny, and a high temperature of 21℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is 2℃ (as of 5:00). At the foot of the mountain yesterday (5th), a high temperature of 16.4 degrees Celsius (13:00) was recorded, and the positive temperature continues until this morning.
