Travel and Terrain Advice

The instability of the snowpack that remains in isolated terrain still requires caution. Avoid convex or isolated terrain where slab formation is suspected, and use simple terrain that is less susceptible to wind. Even if you feel that the snowpack is stable, continue to follow the principle of stopping in safe areas and skiing one person at a time. This will minimize accidents.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches were reported yesterday (February 9).

Snowpack

It has been observed that storm snow has been settling and increasing the bonding strength with the old snow. At higher elevations, wind slabs are forming due to the strong northwest winds.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting southerly winds, cloudy skies, rain or snow before noon, and a maximum temperature of 6°C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -5° (as of 5:45 a.m.).
