The instability of the snowpack that remains in terrain localities still requires caution. Avoid convex or isolated terrain where slab formation is suspected, and use simple terrain that is less susceptible to wind. Even if you feel that the snowpack is stable, continue to follow the principled course of action: stop at a safe place and ski one person at a time. The Japan Meteorological Agency also warns against earthquakes of similar magnitude for about a week after the quake. Please take into account the possibility that it may occur while you are in avalanche terrain.
Look for obvious signs that the snow has moved.
No new avalanches were reported yesterday. A shooting crack was reported on the downwind side slope of the alpine area.
Snowfall up to last morning brought a new accumulation of 30-40 cm. The new layer of snow contained several weak interfaces and was responsive to human stimulation. The new snowfall is on wet melt-form snow at 1700m. As of yesterday, no problems were found in joining the old snow. The snow redistributed on the leeward side by the northerly winds up to yesterday has reached 100 cm. Since midnight last night, the wind direction has changed to the southwest and new redistribution is taking place.
The Japan Meteorological Agency expects the area to be covered by high pressure, but will be affected by a pressure trough and moist air. As a result, the forecast calls for clear skies in the northern part of the country, but cloudy from morning until early afternoon. The maximum daytime temperature is 7°C (418 m elevation). At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is -5.8°C (as of 5:00 pm). Snowfall since last night is 0 cm.
