Travel and Terrain Advice

Since the bonding between yesterday's snowfall and the old snow boundary is expected to be weak, caution should be exercised in triggering storm slabs on steep slopes. More caution is needed at higher elevations where bonding is less likely to progress. Careful slope selection is recommended, such as lowering the slope level and avoiding open steep slopes with few trees. Due to last night's westerly winds, wind slabs are expected to form on steep slopes along the ridgeline and just below the ridge. Please be careful of triggering wind slabs that have not yet bonded. Please pay attention to group management, such as checking for other skiers on slopes above or below you. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Care should also be taken to avoid falling into gully.

概要

Avalanche

Several human-triggered slab avalanche size 1-2 events were reported yesterday (11th) on steep and extremely steep slopes from north to east.

Snowpack

Attention should be paid to bonding as the surface hoar observed extensively on the 9th may have been buried about 30-40 cm below the surface by yesterday's snowfall. No vulnerability in the middle to lower layers of the snowpack has been reported. Some snow movement is expected due to last night's westerly winds.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at Ameda Fujiwara is -4.5°C. No snowfall in the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture with occasional sunshine before noon and snow showers until morning, as the area will be affected by a pressure trough and cold air at first, but will gradually be covered by high pressure.
