At higher elevations where bonding is difficult to progress, act with caution in bonding wind slabs on extremely steep slopes just below ridgelines and branch ridges. Watch for the presence of "terrain traps" such as gullies, cliffs, and standing trees below you that could increase the damage in the event of an avalanche.

Yesterday (14th), there was a report of multiple observations of spontaneous avalanche size 1 avalanches caused by wind slabs on an extremely steep south-facing slope.

Snowpack


Past stormy snowpack is settling and bonding. Yesterday, crusts formed on the south slope at lower elevations.

Weather


As of 4:00 pm, there has been no snowfall at AMeDAS Fujiwara in the past 12 hours, but snow is falling in the surrounding areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting a high pressure pattern in the west and low pressure in the east, with a pressure trough and cold air affecting the northern part of Gunma Prefecture, resulting in cloudy and sometimes sunny skies until early afternoon, with snow in some areas in the evening.
