Below Treeline Fair Depends on the degree of temperature rise and rainfall
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
This is a day when snow cover conditions change dramatically during the day. Watch carefully to see how the rising temperatures and rainfall affect and change the upper layers of the snowpack. Avalanches of wet snow are so heavy that they can scoop you off your feet and knock you off your feet, even if they are small. If there is a "terrain trap," such as a cliff, below the slope, the consequences can be serious. Also, stay away from slopes with glide cracks. If you must pass below it, move quickly and with proper spacing.
Yesterday (25th) the winds were calm, but since last night, extremely strong westerly winds have been blowing on the main ridge. Consider that new wind slabs are forming at higher elevations.
Assessment is as of morning. The likelihood of occurrence increases on slopes that are strongly affected by rainfall or elevated temperatures.
Stay away from slopes with glide cracks. Warm air is coming in. Be vigilant in all directions, not just south at the lower elevations where rainfall has occurred.
No new avalanches were reported yesterday (25th). There are reports of snow cover that has decreased in strength due to rising temperatures and solar radiation, and has collapsed due to ski cuts and other factors.
The storm snow that constituted the upper layer of snowpack proceeded with rapid settling due to yesterday's solar radiation and high temperatures. Dry snow remained on the shaded northern slopes, but Melt-Freeze crusts formed on the slopes affected by sunny slopes. Rainfall or snowfall is forecasted due to the passing of a pressure trough during the day. Where rainfall has occurred, expect significant changes in snowpack conditions.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting westerly winds, slightly strong, rain or snow, occasionally cloudy, with a daytime high of 9 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -2 °C (as of 4:45 a.m.), with no new snowfall in the past 24 hours.
