Temperatures are forecast to rise with sunshine. Watch for loose snow avalanches from southerly oriented large steep slopes. If snowballs begin to roll, it is a sign of increased danger. Watch for open glide cracks at lower elevations and the potential for glide avalanches from cliff-like slopes with thin snowpack. Do not enter the lower part of such slopes or pass through them quickly. When regrouping after skiing, try to do so off avalanche terrain and in the safest place possible, such as on a ridge top. Also, be aware of the possibility of a collapse in areas where there is a large overhang of snow cover.
Watch out for open cracks and cliff-like slopes.
Beware of large steep slopes that increase the amount of snow involved.
No new avalanches were reported yesterday (28th), although there were reports of numerous snowballs observed on the steep southerly slopes and at lower elevations.
On the steep southerly slopes and in all directions at elevations below approximately 1500 m, the snow surface is expected to Melt-Freeze and weakly Re-Freeze during the night. The recent storm snowfall has been settling and the middle to lower layers of the snowpack are settling and bonding.
As of 6:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara was -0.3°C, with a weak nighttime chill. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and occasional cloudiness from late afternoon due to high pressure but gradually becoming moist.
