Travel and Terrain Advice
The Northern part of the region has received considerably more new snow during the storm with snow totals reaching the threshold to create avalanches of sufficient size to be problematic for skiers. This new snow sits over hard surfaces on most aspects which provides a potential sliding interface. In addition to this, moderate to strong NW winds have built windslab on leeward slopes and solar input later today may activate the storm slab. Use extra caution in areas that have more than 30cms of either storm or wind deposited snow and investigate the bond of the new snow to the old surfaces before entering steep or open terrain. The hazard rating will be lower in areas with less storm snow.

No new avalanches have been reported in the past 24 hours.
Snowpack
The northern part of the region (Kiroro/Kokusai) has received 30-40cms of storm snow since Sunday while the Niseko region has had accumulations of up to 10cms. This new snow overlies a melt freeze crust on solar aspects up to 1100m and up to 800m on polar aspects. The new snow has been re-distributed by moderate NW winds and soft cornices have been observed growing particularly in the North.
Weather
A high pressure system approaching from the NW brings a light NNW flow across the region. A cloudy morning will give way to broken skies and the occasional sunny break in the afternoon. No precipitation is expected today and valley temperatures will climb to a high of -1C.
