Travel and Terrain Advice
Generally safe avalanche conditions. An avalanche danger rating of "1 low" does not mean that avalanches will not occur. Also, the JAN avalanche bulletin is not a "forecast" but a "current" condition as of the morning. In alpine and forested treeline, watch for unstable slabs remaining in extreme terrain pockets. Below treeline, watch for loose snow avalanches on slopes affected by rising daytime temperatures and sunny slopes. Wet snow is very heavy and can easily topple people. Also, stay away from slopes with glide cracks. When passing under them, please move quickly and keep a good distance from your companions. Spring is approaching.

Avalanche
Yesterday (10th), a size 1 slab avalanche was observed on the north slope near the treeline. Below treeline, many size 1 loose snow avalanches were observed on steep slopes exposed to the sun.
Snowpack
Yesterday was a sunny day and temperatures rose significantly. The winds were also weaker, and conditions were more conducive to the snow surface and the effects of solar radiation and temperatures. This also helped to eliminate some of the instability of the previous stormy snow. The very weak nighttime cold and warmer air coming in from the south elevation elevated the risk of glide avalanches at lower elevations. Do not let your guard down, even if the weather is cloudy.
Weather
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds out of the south, north winds during the day, cloudy, sometimes sunny, in places, before to after noon, rain, and a daytime high of 13 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is 0 ºC (as of 4:45 a.m.), with no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
