Alpine Low
Treeline Low Depends on the amount of snowfall
Below Treeline Fair Depends on the degree of snowfall and rainfall
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
Watch out for wind slabs that are just forming at higher elevations. Even though very small in size, there is a very hard Melt-Freeze crust underneath. You can lose your footing, slip and fall, and if there are terrain traps below (such as trees in the track), the consequences can be serious. When visibility is poor, situational awareness of terrain is exacerbated. Avalanche danger is proportional to the amount of snowfall that follows, so consider careful route selection and conservative decision making accordingly.
Assessment as of morning. Watch out for wind slabs that are just forming at higher elevations where it has snowed. Even if they are very small, they can cause slides as there are very hard slopes hidden underneath them.
Watch for unstable snow remaining on extreme terrain at very low elevations and in places where it has rained.
No new avalanches were reported yesterday (15th).
Yesterday (the 15th), the snow surface remained hard and frozen due to not much temperature increase and the wind. Here is a small amount of snowfall from this morning at higher elevations. Today's snowfall is due to the passage of a low pressure system off the south coast, so it will not be a significant amount in the Myoko Mountain area. The Niigata District Meteorological Office is forecasting 5 cm of snowfall along the mountains in the Joetsu region.
A low pressure system is developing and moving northeastward along the southern coast of Japan. As a result, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting south winds, later northeast winds, rain, morning and evening showers, cloudy skies, and daytime high temperatures of 9 ºC (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -1 °C (as of 4:45 a.m.), and 2 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours.
