Travel and Terrain Advice

Clear skies and calm conditions offer good weather to travel further into the mountains today. Be careful of rapid warming of the snowpack particularly in areas that received more recent snowfall during the previous storm. Avoid slopes that have the potential to release as glide slab avalanches and look for pockets of windslab in the alpine. Be aware that the weather is forecasted to change later in the day reducing visibility as clouds move into the region.

Avalanche Problem

ウインドスラブ Wind slab

Pockets of windslab can be found lee to the NW winds

全層雪崩 Glide slab

Warm, spring conditions continue to weaken the snowpack particularly at lower elevations and on aspects exposed to the sun.

点発生湿雪雪崩 Wet Loose snow

Rising temperatures and solar input will cause loose wet activity on steep slopes

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches have been reported in the past 24 hours

Snowpack

10-20cms of settled storm snow overlies a melt freeze crust on solar aspects, wind scoured surfaces on NW aspects, a rain crust up to 800m on all aspects and well settled snow on sheltered, polar aspects at treeline and above. The lower and mid pack are well consolidated.

Weather

A ridge of high pressure has settled over SW Hokkaido bringing calm clear weather this morning. Light NW winds will pick up in the afternoon bringing cloud cover and a chance of a light snow shower late in the day. Temperatures in the valley will rise to a high of -3C in the afternoon.
