Be careful to avoid inducing wind slabs in open areas with few trees just below the ridge, areas where the slope changes abruptly, or where the bonding of extremely steep slopes is not advanced. When regrouping after skiing, try to do so off avalanche terrain and in the safest place possible, such as on top of a ridge. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are in the forecast. During the day, please be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches, snow shelter collapses, and glide avalanches from large, steep southerly slopes and to avoid entering the lower portions of such slopes or to pass over them quickly.
Beware of extremely steep slopes just below the ridge.
Beware of large steep slopes due to the amount of snow involved.
Watch out for open cracks and cliff-like terrain.
A snowboarder of unknown gender may have been involved in an avalanche near Kumanasawa-zawa, Tanigawa-dake Tenjin-one yesterday (20th), Gunma Prefectural Police Numata Station announced, but details were not available. In the surrounding area, there were reports of multiple wind slabs (size 1-1.5) triggered on the easterly slopes.
A new snowfall of 40-50cm is on top of the crust buried on the 19th, and a layer of poor bonding is observed within this snowfall, so caution is needed at higher elevations where bonding is difficult to progress. Avalanches have been triggered around Tanigawa-dake due to the formation of wind slabs just below the ridge. 30-40 cm of snow on the crust buried on the 17th is gradually settling, but there are reports of poor bonding at the boundary. Weakness from the middle to lower layers of snow cover was not observed.
As of 4:00, the temperature at Ameda Fujiwara is -3.9°C. No snowfall in the past 12 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies due to gradual high pressure. In Minakami Town, temperatures are forecast to rise to 14°C.
