Alpine Fair
Treeline Fair
Below Treeline Good
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
Be on the lookout for glide avalanches at lower elevations, as the continued high temperatures are causing the snow to melt. Stay away from slopes with glide cracks. Higher temperatures than yesterday are forecast for today. During the day, please pay attention to the decrease in snow strength in the upper layers of the snowpack. Wet loose snow avalanches can occur even in the forest. Now that the wind has subsided, some of you may climb up to the alpine areas. On ridges and other areas, a very hard Melt-Freeze layer is exposed, so please be careful of slipping and falling.
Warmer temperatures than yesterday are predicted, so please stay away from slopes with glide cracks.
Rating is as of morning. Caution on very steep terrain, where snow tends to gather and increase in size.
Yesterday (23rd), several size 1 loose snow avalanches with ski cuts were observed below treeline. A size 1.5 glide avalanche was also reported on a very steep south-facing slope.
The strong winds that have been blowing in the High Alpine for several days weakened yesterday afternoon. In areas affected by this wind, very hard Melt-Freeze crusts are exposed and shukabras are forming. On the other hand, at lower elevations, the upper layer of snowpack is becoming thicker and wetter under the influence of high temperature solar radiation. Due to weak nighttime cooling, the danger of glide avalanches continues at very low elevations.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, later, west, clear, later, cloudy, night, rain, and daytime high temperatures of 22 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is 1 °C (as of 4:45 a.m.), with no new precipitation in the past 24 hours.
