The best conditions today will be found on solar aspects as the sun and temperature rise soften the snow surface early in the day before it becomes wet and heavy. With spring conditions fully committed glide cracks have grown with a number of glide slab failures over the previous few weeks. Shaded and westerly slopes at higher elevations may be firm today.
Glide cracks have continued to grow and widen due to recent fluctuations in temperature. Terrain below these features should be avoided.
Clear skies and a rising freezing level will promote wet loose activity in steep terrain.
We have received no new updates of avalanche activity acorss the region.
The spring diurnal cycle continues at present. A melt freeze crust has formed on the surface to add to the multiple crusts found in the upper snowpack below 1000 meters. At higher elevations westerly aspects are firm in exposed terrain and on ridgelines. Glide cracks are growing on multiple aspects and elevations at present.
Southwest winds will remain light to moderate today with broken sunshine moving to overcast with the possibility of light rain showers in the evening. The freezing level will rise to 1800m by the afternoon.
