Further rainfall this morning will have created conditions similar to the previous few days. We can expect the upper snow pack to be saturated and heavy today on all aspects below 1200 meters. The overall snow pack height has been reducing resulting in natural hazards such as creek crossings and vegetation becoming a hazard. As the freezing level lowers a surface freeze may occur above 500 meters creating a breakable crust late in the day.
Rainfall throughout the morning will further promote the possibility of glide slab avalanches releasing the full seasonal snowpack with high consequences. Continue to avoid terrain below these features in the coming days.
Expect wet loose activity in steep terrain on all aspects below 1000 meters. Be mindful of terrain traps below you, especially creeks or hollows.
No new observations have been reported recently.
Rainfall from yesterday morning combined with today’s rain event has made the upper snowpack down to 100cm moist on all aspects. Glide cracks have continued to grow across the region. There is the possibility of light snowfall in the alpine today.
Rainfall is excepted to continue until lunchtime today, with 2.5mm recorded at 6 am. The the freezing level will lower during the day as the winds move to the north with the possibility of light snow showers in the afternoon.
