Travel and Terrain Advice

Snowfall continues and it is a dangerous avalanche condition. Careful route selection is necessary, but it is difficult to recognize the surrounding terrain and appearance due to poor visibility. Note the triggering of wind slabs on steep slopes directly under ridges and supporting ridges, and storm slabs on steep slopes. Pay attention to the possibility of avalanches from steep slopes overhead, even if you yourself are in a loose slope. Terrain traps such as rocks, deep ravines, and cliffs that increase damage when an avalanche occurs are exposed. It is forecast that the winter-type atmospheric pressure arrangement will continue. The risk of avalanches increases due to weather changes. Be aware of changes in the situation and act.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (25th), there were no reports of new avalanches, but visibility was poor and there were few mountaineers. On the 23rd, there were reports of human-induced observation of multiple planar avalanche sizes 1.5 on the eastward slope around 2400 m and multiple naturally occurring point avalanche sizes 1.5 on the southeastern slope near 2200 m altitude.

Snowpack

There is a new snowfall from last night about 30 cm and sintering is progressing. Snowfall due to stormy weather that began on 22nd is over 100cm above the old snow. In places where the wind hits, such as ridgelines, the crust is blown away and the crust is exposed. A strong temperature gradient has been observed at the interface with the old snow, so attention should be paid to recrystallization in the future. On the 23rd, low-density snowfall was observed in the lower part of this snowfall, which responded very sensitively to human stimuli. The connection between the recrystallized old snow in the high elevation zone unaffected by rainfall and the new snowfall is unknown.

Weather

The current temperature at 6:00 in Murodo is -7.2 degrees Celsius. Visibility is poor and snowfall continues. The Japan Meteorological Agency has predicted that there will be rainy and cloudy areas at the foot of the mountain with lightning due to the winter-type atmospheric pressure arrangement and the atmospheric condition is expected to be very unstable due to atmospheric pressure valleys.
