Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of triggering storm slabs from places with thin snow cover, such as wind-prone ridges. It is a situation where visibility is poor and it is difficult to recognize the surrounding terrain and appearance. Pay attention to the possibility of avalanches from steep slopes overhead, even if you yourself are in a loose slope. Terrain traps such as rocks, deep ravines, and cliffs that increase damage when an avalanche occurs are exposed. It is forecast that the winter-type atmospheric pressure arrangement will continue. The risk of avalanches increases due to weather changes. Act with caution to changes in snowfall and wind conditions.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (26th), there were no reports of new avalanches, but visibility was poor and there were few mountaineers.

Snowpack

There was about 50cm of new snowfall from last night. Snowfall due to stormy weather lasting from 22nd has been on top of the old snow of 150 cm or more, and sintering is progressing. Strong temperature gradients and recrystallization have been observed at the interface between this snow cover and the crust formed by rainfall, and attention should be paid to future degradation of coupling. The connection between the recrystallized old snow in the high elevation zone unaffected by rainfall and the new snowfall is unknown.

Weather

The current temperature at 5:00 in Murodo is -11 degrees Celsius. Visibility is poor and snowfall continues. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a forecast that there will be rain or snow at the foot of the mountain with lightning, as the atmospheric condition is expected to continue to be winter-type and the atmospheric condition will be very unstable due to the chill in the sky.
