Travel and Terrain Advice

It's a difficult avalanche condition. The overall avalanche risk is slowly falling, but there is a large variation in the intensity of snow cover depending on the location, and, if triggered, a very large avalanche can occur. Large terrain should be avoided, slopes are reduced, topographically a large margin of safety action is required. Even if you are in a forest belt, think about whether there are large outbreaks above you. The snow is so deep that even a small avalanche can be fatal when combined with traps in the terrain. Please think about what is ahead of the slope, and act with your friends in view. If you are inexperienced, it will be a fun day to run fresh snow in the ski area.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (14th), an avalanche of storm slabs with a size of 2 -2.5 and a fracture surface of 20 cm to 100 cm occurred in the safety management of the ski resort. There is also stormy weather in the mountainous area, and there is no information.

Snowpack

A series of snowfalls exceeds 100 cm in the below treeline and, receiving north-western winds, forms storm slabs. Under this snow, there is a hard snow surface due to the storm on the 12th, or a layer that has been melted and frozen, etc., and it seems that the strength at the boundary surface has not yet increased sufficiently. In addition, some parts of the snow that are not sufficiently coupled have been observed in this mass of snow.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts northern Nagano prefecture's northern wind, sunny, occasional, cloudy, and maximum temperature of 1℃ (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -7.5℃ (as of 5:00).
