It's a difficult avalanche condition. The overall avalanche risk is slowly falling, but there is a large variation in the intensity of snow cover depending on the location, and, if triggered, a very large avalanche can occur. Large terrain should be avoided, slopes are reduced, topographically a large margin of safety action is required. Even if you are in a forest belt, think about whether there are large outbreaks above you. The snow is so deep that even a small avalanche can be fatal when combined with traps in the terrain. Please think about what is ahead of the slope, and act with your friends in view. If you are inexperienced, it will be a fun day to run fresh snow in the ski area.
Yesterday (15th) was also stormy weather, and no avalanches were reported in the backcountry.
A series of snowfalls exceeds 100 cm in the below treeline and, receiving north-western winds, forms storm slabs. At low elevations, snow on the surface layer is settling, but at high elevations, the bond strength with the old snow surface has not yet increased sufficiently.
The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts the west wind, initially slightly strong, cloudy, snow until morning, and a maximum temperature of 5℃ (elevation 13m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m), the temperature is -8 ℃ (as of 5:00), 0 cm in the past 12 hours, and 10 cm snowfall in the past 24 hours.
