It is a day that requires attention to the instability that remains in certain terrain. Those who raise the elevation should be wary of windslabs formed locally on the terrain. There is a forecast that the wind direction will change during the day, so please be aware of the change. On the large slopes facing south, there are still elements that could potentially cause large avalanches. Please observe the terrain carefully and choose a safe line. If you feel a steady trend in the snow cover, continue with the principle mode of behavior, such as moving at appropriate intervals and resting in a safe place. It reduces accidents in the event of an emergency, and increases the possibility of survival and rescue. Have a nice day
Yesterday (15th), avalanches of size 3 were observed on the southeastern slope at an altitude of 1500 m or multiple avalanches of size 2 to 2.5 on the eastern slope at an altitude of 2,600 m. Both are patterns that occurred during stormy weather.
Since the weather recovered yesterday (15th), the snow accumulation proceeded rapidly to settling. Although the snow in the stormy weather of the past few days is in the direction of stabilization, circumstantial evidence has also been observed on the steep slope facing south, where the boundary with the former former snow surface has not yet been fully combined, which is a situation that requires additional observation.
The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, cloudy weather, occasional sunny weather until afternoon, snow or rain from mid-afternoon, and a maximum temperature of 4℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -11.6℃ (as of 5:00). There has been no snowfall since yesterday.
