Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of unstable snow in extreme terrain geometries, etc. Even if the snow on the surface layer moves small, such as a steep narrow swamp or a funnel-shaped terrain, the risk rises where it gathers. Think about whether there are any traps in the terrain under the slopes you want to slide. On the slopes facing south at low elevations, snow depressions due to previous glide cracks can be seen. It's also important to imagine what it looks like under the snow, which seems comfortable. The weather is clearly going downhill for tomorrow. An action plan that takes that into account.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (16th), several small point avalanches were observed and reported due to snowfall that began around noon.

Snowpack

The snow in the previous stormy weather proceeded settling smoothly, and no noticeable vulnerability has been identified in the snow surface layer. Snowfall began yesterday in the afternoon, and point avalanches have been observed within the day. The amount of snowfall until this morning is small, but attention should be paid to the slab formed by this snow.

Weather

The Meteorological Agency forecasts northern Nagano prefecture with northern wind, cloudy, occasional snow, and a maximum temperature of 2℃ (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -1.0 ℃ (as of 5:00). There has been no snowfall since yesterday. We have been observing snowfall of about 10 cm since yesterday afternoon at an altitude of 1,000 m.
