Conditions are high hazardous in certain terrain. While climbing, look for places where snow has accumulated, which was affected by yesterday's strong winds. Since it was a storm in the Alpine area, a hard slope was exposed, and the wind slab may exist only in the topography area. Even in places where the elevation was lowered from the forest limit, the influence of the wind was very strong, so please consider that there is still a situation where large avalanches can occur on open slopes. Start your day with a smaller terrain with a reduced slope, and look for terrain that is less affected by wind. The snow is getting cold. By choosing the terrain, you should be able to enjoy it safely and comfortably. Have a nice day
Yesterday (18th), a large number of point avalanches of size 1 due to continuous snow were observed on a very steep slope without the influence of wind in the forest zone. Information is not included because of stormy weather above the forest limit.
Snowfall from the morning of the 17th continued intermittently until yesterday and evening, and it is about 80 cm in the upper part of the below treeline. Especially since it continued to fall in a relatively weak state until noon yesterday, it is the cause of point avalanches. The overall structure of the snow cover is a forward structure in which the hardness rises toward the lower layer, but due to the storm from noon yesterday, the snow moves violently and forms a wind slab. In such places, the snow cover has an unstable reverse structure. The influence of the wind is very strong up to the foot of the mountain.
The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, rear, northern winds, cloudy, sometimes sunny, snow in some places, and a maximum temperature of 0°C (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -14.2℃ (as of 5:00). There has been no new snowfall in the past 12 hours at an altitude of 1,000 m, but we have observed snowfall of about 40 cm in the past 36 hours.
