Conditions are high hazardous in certain terrain. While climbing, look for places where snow has accumulated, which was affected by yesterday's strong winds. Since it was a storm in the Alpine area, a hard slope was exposed, and the wind slab may exist only in the topography area. Even in places where the elevation was lowered from the forest limit, the influence of the wind was very strong, so please consider that there is still a situation where large avalanches can occur on open slopes. The snow is so deep that even if it is small enough to move the snow, it can be fatal if it is combined with traps in the terrain (for example, potholes and swells). While communicating with friends, value a principled way of behavior that uses safe terrain.
An avalanche of size 2, which seems to have occurred during stormy weather, has been observed yesterday (18th). A size 1 avalanche has also occurred due to human stimulation.
Depending on the location of the Myoko Mountains, the amount of snow in stormy weather varies, and there are generally a lot of them on the north side. It has been over 1 m in the upper below treeline in the past 36 hours, and there is a low density layer close to its surface layer, and waffing sounds have been observed as of yesterday. Also, since around noon yesterday, it became a storm, and snow was moving violently, which is noticeable even at low elevations.
The Meteorological Agency forecasts westerly winds, snow, occasional, cloudy, and maximum temperatures of 3°C (elevation 13m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m), there was a temperature of -11 ℃ (as of 5:00), 8 cm in the past 12 hours, and snowfall of 38 cm in the past 24 hours.
