Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of unstable slabs that remain in certain terrain. Convex, extreme shapes, or wind slabs resting on very steep slopes should still be sufficiently inductive. If there are no traps in the terrain and the slope is not affected by the wind, it is possible to safely glide in fresh snow with support. Even if you feel that snow cover is trending steadily, you should continue with the principle of action, such as stopping in a safe place and moving at reasonable intervals in places exposed to avalanches. Habitalizing such a good behavior will reduce accidents in case of an emergency.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (19th), multiple surface avalanches of size 2-2.5 were observed and reported on the open slope facing northeast to east of the elevation zone near the forest limit from the upper part of the forest zone. Both occurrences occur between the day before and the morning of the day.

Snowpack

The intermittent snowfall from the 16th ended, and the weather was fine yesterday (19th) morning. Snow in stormy weather is slowly sintering. The effects of strong winds in the northwest on the 18th can be observed when elevation is raised, and windslabs due to it remain locally. No noticeable vulnerability has been observed below the middle layer of snow cover.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting southern wind, daytime, northern wind, cloudy, and snow from before noon, and the highest temperature - 2℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -4.9℃ (as of 5:00). There is no new snowfall since last night at an altitude of 1,000m.
