This is a very dangerous avalanche condition. A large open slope facing east to southeast to south is a state where very large avalanches can occur. Even if you are in the forest zone, please be sufficiently vigilant of the occurrence areas and runways within it. The snow is very deep and soft, so there is a risk of burial if a combination of traps (hollows and depressed swamps) of the terrain is merely a small avalanche or a slight collapse of snow. For those who are inexperienced, the slopes are fun conditions. When skating in the fresh snow area set up at the ski resort, please pair up with your friends while being aware of each other.
Due to stormy weather yesterday (20th), there was no avalanche occurrence situation in the mountains. In the adjacent Hakuba Mountains, a large number of point avalanches (size 1-1.5) in the morning and very soft storm slabs (size 1-1.5) in the afternoon have been reported in the forest belt.
The snowfall that began yesterday (20th) morning was low in cohesiveness, and it was possible to generate point avalanches soon after deposition began. In the afternoon, there were also effects of wind, etc., which increased the risk of surface avalanches on soft slabs. The strong snowfall generally subsided last night, but west-northwest winds are blowing at high elevations, and it is necessary to consider the reverse structure extremely unstable in places where snow moved by the wind accumulates.
The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts the northwest wind, snow, and a maximum temperature of 2 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m), the temperature is -10 ℃ (as of 5:00), 52 cm in the past 12 hours, and 113 cm snowfall in the past 24 hours.
