Travel and Terrain Advice

The wind has also subsided, and a calm day is forecast. Generally, it is a safe avalanche condition, but if you increase the elevation, be careful of the locally formed windslab. The place where the snow surface is hit by the wind, and there is a possibility of a wind-slab where the clean surface exists between the rugged slopes. The most effective means to combat avalanches is to “reduce the slope”. There are also many free smartphone apps, so let's actually measure the inclination while acting and acquire that feeling. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (24th), a naturally occurring full-layer avalanche, size 2, was observed at a low elevation in the forest zone.

Snowpack

Snow in stormy weather is in the direction of stabilization in the below treeline, no pronounced vulnerability is observed. Although observation information is limited and uncertainty is high in the Myoko Mountains, it has been reported that there are places where surface frost is hidden beneath the windslab from the forest limit to the Alpine in the adjacent Hakuba Mountains. If you raise the action elevation, be wary of a combination of shaded slopes on the north side, where radiation is outstanding even in favorable weather, and places where wind slabs are formed by westerly winds.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, daytime, northern winds, cloudy, early afternoon, sunny, and a maximum temperature of 6 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture.
