Travel and Terrain Advice

Near and above forest limits, days with high avalanche conditions for certain terrain. Although the amount of snowfall is small, it is strongly suspected that the formation of a storm slab that responds sensitively to human stimuli due to weather changes. While climbing, please use the small, safe terrain and check the condition of the snow cover. Moving snow can be fatal if there is at least a “terrain trap” below a slope, such as trees, cliffs, or deep depressions. Think carefully about what is at the end of the slope.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches were observed yesterday (26th). In the adjacent Hakuba Mountains, point generation avalanches due to snowfall from the early dawn were observed and reported.

Snowpack

Yesterday, there was a slight snowfall (about a few centimeters in the below treeline) since the early dawn, and it is on the old snow that is stabilizing. By this morning, it seems that some snowfall at high altitudes was being affected by strong westerly winds. Therefore, on the leeward slope, it is necessary to consider that there is a high possibility that the subsequent fresh snow is deposited under the influence of the wind on the snow with a very weak binding force.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts west winds, initially slightly strong, cloudy, occasional snow, and a maximum temperature of 6 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m), the temperature is -4℃ (as of 5:00), and snowfall of 1 cm has been observed in the past 24 hours.
