Travel and Terrain Advice

This is a dangerous condition. Be wary of wind slabs that have formed by this morning, with northwesterly winds. Within the snow cover in the place where the migrated snow is deposited, there are places where weak snow, which has not yet fully gained strength, is hiding. If it is triggered in such a place, an avalanche of a larger scale than the avalanches observed until yesterday can occur. Try to avoid large open slopes on the northeast to southeast side. Look for a place that is not affected by the wind, and if you reduce the slope a little, you can glide safely. Please do smart group management while being careful about traps in the terrain.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (30th), an induced size 1 plane avalanche has been observed in the below treeline.

Snowpack

The vulnerability of fresh snow that fell from the evening of the 26th to the 27th still remains mainly on the north side, responding to human stimuli. Also, as of yesterday, there were places where snow with weak binding power was deposited on the surface layer of snow cover and valley muscles. A northwestern storm has been blowing in the Alpine this morning. Due to this, it is necessary to think that the nearest weakly cohesive snow moves to the leeward side, forming a wind slab.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts northern Nagano prefecture's northern wind, cloudy, occasional sunny weather, and a maximum temperature of 2℃ (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -4.8℃ (as of 5:00), and there is no new snow accumulation in the past 12 hours. There has been some snowfall in the north of Hakuba Valley, and it has been 10 cm snowfall in the past 12 hours at an altitude of around 1,000 m.
