Travel and Terrain Advice

This is a dangerous avalanche condition. Be wary of wind slabs formed by strong northwestern winds. Where wind slabs are forming, avalanches of a magnitude larger than yesterday can occur. Avoid large open slopes from the northeast to the southeast, and check if there are any large outbreaks above you, and do not take a break in such places. If you look for a route with a reduced slope that is not affected by the wind, the snow conditions are good and you can enjoy gliding safely.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (30th), naturally occurring size 2 surface avalanches, size 1 surface generated avalanches due to ski cuts, and sloughs due to weak cohesion snow in the snow cover surface layer were observed in the below treeline.

Snowpack

In the vicinity of the surface layer of snow cover, on the north side, where vulnerability due to fresh snow from 26th to 27th has not been completely resolved, on the south side, the melting frozen crust formed on the 29th and subsequent snowfall sufficiently increase the strength There are places that are not there. It is necessary to consider that the weakly cohesive snow, which was near the snow surface as of yesterday, is being redistributed by strong northwestern winds.

Weather

The Meteorological Agency predicts northwestern winds, later, slightly stronger, snow, sometimes cloudy, and a maximum temperature of 4 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m), the temperature is -9℃ (as of 5:00), and 2 cm snowfall has been observed in the past 12 hours.
