Travel and Terrain Advice

Those who raise the elevation should be wary of windslabs formed by yesterday's strong northwesterly winds. A hard slab does not mean safety, and its induced sensitivity is difficult to estimate even for professionals. On the terrain locality near the forest limits, weak snow, which had reacted until a few days ago, may be hiding under its slab, completely unintensified. Look for the effects of the wind while climbing.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (1/31), an avalanche of size 2 was observed in the morning safety management of the ski resort. Also, point avalanches of size 1 have been observed in the area where the elevation of the sea side is low in the Myoko Mountains. This is due to the lack of cohesion, which falls due to weak snow clouds.

Snowpack

Snow in stormy weather is settling, and the latest fresh snow with weak cohesion is placed on it. It is a place with a higher elevation than the upper part of the below treeline, and a strong northwesterly wind blew yesterday (31st), forming a wind slab. Information is limited, and there is a high level of uncertainty about this window slab.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts west winds, later, slightly stronger, snow or rain, morning to afternoon, cloudy, and a maximum temperature of 5 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m), the temperature is -8℃ (as of 5:00), and snowfall of 3 cm has been observed in the past 12 hours.
