It is a day when avalanche conditions are high in certain terrain. Even though the likelihood of spontaneous avalanches is low, human triggering is possible. The most important factor in determining avalanche hazard is “slope”. It is important to switch consciousness to slopes that are managed safely. Also, the sense of slope changes considerably depending on the condition of the snow underfoot (hard or deep snow) and the surrounding environment (whether it is in a forest or a wide open slope). Please actively use the ramp meter (there is also a free smartphone app). The condition of the snow is good, and even if the slope is slightly reduced, it is a day where you can enjoy fresh snow with a sense of skiing. Look for a simple terrain with no “terrain traps” at the end of the slope and manage your group wisely. Have a nice day
Yesterday (2nd) an avalanche of storm slabs of size 1-2 was observed at the morning safety management of the ski resort. It is an elevation of 1,500 m or less, and the azimuth is a slope facing east to southeast to south.
As of yesterday in the upper part of the below treeline, there was about 50 cm of fresh snow, and it has been observed that some parts have not yet increased their intensity sufficiently. It is necessary to check the boundary between old snow and fresh snow, or weak points in fresh snow. When raising the elevation, keep in mind that a moderate wind slightly southwesterly was blowing at night on the main ridge line, and check the weak spots in the fresh snow.
The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts northern Nagano prefecture with northern winds, cloudy weather, evening snow, and a maximum temperature of 4℃ (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), there was a snowfall of about 5 cm in the past 12 hours with a temperature of -4° C (as of 5 o'clock).
