It is a day when avalanche conditions are high in certain terrain. Even though the likelihood of spontaneous avalanches is low, human triggering is possible. The most important factor in determining avalanche hazard is “slope”. It is important to switch consciousness to slopes that are managed safely. Also, the sense of slope changes considerably depending on the condition of the snow underfoot (hard or deep snow) and the surrounding environment (whether it is in a forest or a wide open slope). Please actively use the ramp meter (there is also a free smartphone app). The condition of the snow is good, and even if the slope is slightly reduced, it is a day where you can enjoy fresh snow with a sense of skiing. Look for a simple terrain with no “terrain traps” at the end of the slope and manage your group wisely. Have a nice day
Yesterday (2nd) a naturally occurring point avalanche of size 1 was observed on a very steep slope. There are few people entering the mountain at high elevations, and there is no information.
Please check the combined state of the fresh snow that has been gathered until yesterday and the old snow surface before that, or weak spots in the fresh snow. On the surface that is exposed to strong sunlight, there is a melting frozen crust under the fresh snow, so check the bonding condition. The temperature has been slightly higher than before, and I think that settling and sintering will proceed quickly, but don't think that it's okay to observe one snow cover. Moderate southwest winds are blowing at night in Alpine, so please check the condition with that in mind.
The Meteorological Agency forecasts the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture with a slightly strong wind in the west, wind in the northwest, snow, and sometimes cloudy until afternoon, and a maximum temperature of 6 degrees (elevation 13 m). We are observing snowfall at Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m) with a temperature of -5℃ (as of 5:00), 1 cm in the past 12 hours, and 15 cm in the past 24 hours.
