Travel and Terrain Advice

It is a day when you need to be careful about the unstable snow remaining in certain terrain. Observe the terrain well and find out how the wind slabs are formed and the shape that makes it difficult for the terrain to support snow cover. There is good snow with a sense of gliding on the shady slopes, which are less affected by the wind. Simple terrain without “terrain traps” can be safely enjoyed. Take care of the principled mode of behavior, such as stopping in a safe place, watching people slipping, and not slipping onto its upper slope when a person falls in the middle of a slope. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

There were few people entering the mountain yesterday (7th), and there is no information on the mountainous area. In the adjacent Hakuba Mountains, avalanches of size 1-2.5, which seem to occur until the morning of the 7th, have been observed in all elevation bands in the northeast to east to southeast directions. In addition, human induced avalanches of size 2 have also been observed in below treeline belts exposed to solar radiation.

Snowpack

It has been observed that snow in stormy weather proceeds with settling and sintering, but it is still necessary to pay attention to the instability that remains in isolated terrain. The wind at high elevations has subsided, and it is necessary to respond to windslabs that have elapsed over time. Hard slabs are difficult to estimate induced sensitivity, and ski-cutting is also unsuitable. In places with high elevations and strong wind effects, there are also places where the snow from this stormy weather is placed as a wind slab on the previously formed melting and freezing layer. In such places, under the influence of elevated temperatures during the day, it often happens that in the morning even hard slabs respond more easily to human stimuli in the daytime.

Weather

The Meteorological Agency forecasts southern winds, daytime, northern winds, snow, occasional cloudy, and a maximum temperature of 4 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. We are observing the temperature -11℃ (as of 5:00 p.m.) at Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1310m). No new snowfall has been observed in the lower elevation areas in the last 12 hours.
