Even if the scale of an avalanche that can occur is small, if it is a steep place with a “terrain trap”, it can have a serious outcome. Since melting and freezing crusts formed yesterday on steep slopes affected by solar radiation, point-generated avalanches flowing above them are often long-legged. When you watch your friends manage such an avalanche, take a good look at the terrain and be in a safe position. 概要
Avalanche
There were no new avalanches reported yesterday (13th).
Snowpack
Due to the effects of yesterday's solar radiation, the south wind during the day, and the rise in temperature at low elevations, thin thawing crusts were formed on the slopes closer to the south. The snow on the north side is kept dry, but there are places where recrystallized snow remains. There was a weak snowfall until this morning, mainly on the south side of Hakuba Valley here.
Weather
The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts the northern part of Nagano prefecture with northern winds, sunny weather, morning and evening, cloudy, and a high temperature of 4°C (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -2.8℃ (as of 5:00), and there was a snowfall of 5 cm in the past 12 hours. There is a lot of snowfall in the south of the valley, and in Omachi it is 15 cm snowfall in 24 hours.
