This is a very dangerous avalanche condition. Extremely careful route setting and conservative decision-making are essential. Even if you are in a forest belt, think about whether there are large outbreaks in the upper part of you. In particular, where you have to slide through below treeline belts and descend along rivers in large valleys, etc., you are always exposed to the risk of large avalanches from the top. Also, there is a situation where there is a diversity of snow conditions, such that even if a place is okay, it is very unstable on different slopes. If you find it difficult to judge, the best thing to do is to reduce the slope and avoid the characteristic terrain that is easy to induce. If you are inexperienced, this is a good day to enjoy fresh snow in the ski area. If you have experience, please consider an action plan while considering the deterioration of the weather.
Yesterday (15th), due to snow with weak cohesion that fell during the day, many point occurrence avalanches, size 1, were observed in the afternoon by human stimulation.
No major problems have been observed in the middle and below the snow cover, and the main concern is in the snow surface layer. The snowfall that had been interrupted from the 14th until the night of the 15th is weak, causing point avalanches in steep terrain. This snow rests on thawed and frozen crusts on slopes exposed to solar radiation, recrystallized snow in places where heat escaped by radiation on the north side, and on hard snow surfaces on wind-hit slopes. After that, the wind direction changes to the west, and strong winds with snowfall are blowing near the ridge. It is difficult to judge the appropriate situation because not only the whole structure, in which the snow of a dense blizzard is placed on top of low density snow with weak coupling force, but also its sliding surface is in various states.
The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, cloudy weather, occasional sunny weather, snow in some places, and a maximum temperature of 4℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), there was a snowfall of about 15 cm in the past 12 hours with a temperature of -3.5° C (as of 5:00). Snowfall of about 50 cm has been recorded in the upper part of the below treeline on the north side of Hakuba Valley in the past 24 hours. Don't be relieved just because there is little snowfall at the foot.
