Even in the below treeline, avoid large slopes that open from northeast to south, where westerly winds are downwind. Even if you are in a forest, make sure there are no large outbreaks at the top. Yesterday (16th), many avalanches of storm slabs of size 1-2 were observed in the below treeline due to natural occurrence or human stimuli such as ski cuts.
Snowpack
Please consider that the state described in the avalanche information of yesterday (16th) is basically continuing. Snowfall of 20 cm or more is on the upper part of the below treeline there, and westerly winds have been intensifying very much near the main ridge line since this morning. It is a state in which spontaneous occurrence can occur in a certain place, even if it is dull to human stimulation in a certain place.
Weather
The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts southern wind, snow, morning to evening, cloudy, and a maximum temperature of 1℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), there was a snowfall of about 5 cm in the past 12 hours with a temperature of -5.8℃ (as of 5:00). About 20 cm of snowfall has been recorded in the northern part of Hakuba Valley and the upper part of the below treeline in the past 24 hours. In addition, the Meteorological Agency announced weather information on heavy snow at 5:57 on February 17, and forecast heavy snow of 40 cm along the mountains in the northern part of Nagano prefecture for 24 hours from 6:00 on the 17th to 6:00 on the 18th.
