Avalanche conditions continue to be high. Due to the change in the course of the low pressure, it is not as heavy as the forecast, but there are places where the lower layers of this snowfall have not yet sufficiently increased their strength. Avoid large steep slopes that are affected by solar radiation, even at low altitudes. Also, while acting, be sure to feel how the snow on the surface layer does not have a tendency to the slab. It is also a good idea to look for traces of wind to see how the slab behaves on a small, safe terrain. If you feel that it is difficult to grasp the situation, you can reduce the slope. That is the most effective measure against avalanches. Avoid places that are prone to provoking, choose simple slopes without terrain traps. Have a safe day
Yesterday (17th), multiple avalanches of storm slabs of size 1.5-2 were observed and reported by the safety management of the ski resort in the morning. Also, avalanches of storm slabs of size 1-1.5 have appeared due to ski cuts etc. in the below treeline.
The surface layer of snow cover is formed by storm slabs due to the snow of the past few days. It has been observed that avalanches occur on slopes that are affected by solar radiation in the below treeline, using thawing and freezing crusts formed on the 14th as sliding surfaces. In other directions, it is caused by low density snow from the 14th to the 15th. At the top of the forest limit, information is limited, so there is a high level of uncertainty.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northern Nagano prefecture's north wind, snow, cloudy, sunny, and a maximum temperature of 3℃ (elevation 418m) from the afternoon. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), there was a snowfall of 2 cm in the past 12 hours with a temperature of -3.1℃ (as of 5:00).
