Avalanche conditions continue to be high. Due to the change in the course of the low pressure, it is not as heavy as the forecast, but there are places where the lower layers of this snowfall have not yet sufficiently increased their strength. Avoid large steep slopes that are affected by solar radiation, even at low altitudes. Also, while acting, be sure to feel how the snow on the surface layer does not have a tendency to the slab. It is also a good idea to look for traces of wind to see how the slab behaves on a small, safe terrain. If you feel that it is difficult to grasp the situation, you can reduce the slope. That is the most effective measure against avalanches. Avoid places that are prone to provoking, choose simple slopes without terrain traps. Have a safe day
Yesterday (17th), multiple human-induced storm slab avalanches of size 1.5 were observed and reported in the north, northeast, and south directions of the forest belt.
The surface layer of snow cover is formed by storm slabs due to the snow of the past few days. It has been observed that avalanches occur on slopes affected by solar radiation in the below treeline, using previously thawed and frozen crusts as sliding surfaces. At the top of the forest limit, information is limited, so there is a high level of uncertainty.
The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts the northwest wind, slightly stronger, later, west wind, snow, and evening, cloudy, and a maximum temperature of 4 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Kanzan (altitude 350 m), the temperature was 0.4℃ (as of 5:00), and there was a snowfall of 4cm in the past 12 hours.
