It is a day when avalanche conditions are high in certain terrain. A large slope facing south is not recommended. There is a huge amount of uncertainty there. Some people may try to determine the instability with a weak layer test, but this is not recommended. What you need is common sense. The slopes of the mountains are huge. Do not multiply life on a 30 cm square pillar. If you can't figure it out with one such thing, the avalanche accident has long been gone. The most important point of avalanche risk management is to take safety margins using the terrain according to the degree that is unknown, and not to accurately estimate instability. It is a day where you can enjoy powder in very good condition if it is a simple terrain with no traps of terrain, or slopes that are not affected by solar radiation or wind. Please continue to do safety actions such as stopping in a safe place, skating one by one, and watching people sliding. It reduces accidents in the unlikely event of an accident. Have a nice day
Yesterday (18th), a surface avalanche of size 2.5-3 was observed on the south-facing slope of the Alpine area.
Snow in stormy weather is slowly settling, but it cannot be said that it has stabilized sufficiently yet. Fortunately, the wind is weak even near the main ridge, so it seems that a noticeable windslab is not a problem. However, today's temperature is forecast to rise significantly, and southerly winds are coming in, so it is necessary to consider the impact. The large slope facing south has a melting frozen crust that becomes a good (bad for us) sliding surface under the snow in stormy weather, and has the potential to cause large avalanches.
The Meteorological Agency predicts southern wind, sunny, cloudy, night, snow or rain, and a maximum temperature of 8℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -10.9° C (as of 5:00), and there is no new snowfall in the past 12 hours. In the sky, a weak wind is already coming in closer to the southwest.
