Travel and Terrain Advice

There is not much snowfall until this morning, but the western storm has begun to blow near the ridge line, and it is necessary to think about the consequences. On the south slope, please check how the crust formed yesterday and the fresh snow are combined. Please consider whether dense slabs are formed on the eastward slope where the slough was yesterday. A “reverse structure” in which a dense slab rests on top of low-density snow is a typical pattern where avalanches are likely to be induced. The weather forecast tells of a clear deterioration towards the night. An action plan with that in mind.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (19th), an incident occurred where two people encountered an avalanche on the high winding slope of Minamitaki in the lower part of Karamatsuzawa. In addition, multiple surface avalanches of size 2-2.5, which seem to have occurred during stormy weather, have been observed on the slopes closer to the east. Due to the effects of rising temperatures and solar radiation, point avalanches of size 1 wet snow were also observed at low elevations.

Snowpack

In places with yesterday's warming up and the effects of solar radiation, the snow in stormy weather quickly settling, forming thin crusts on the snow surface. Snow in stormy weather fell in a state of weak wind, and heat escaped due to radiant cooling last morning, and slabs were also occurring on the shady steep slopes. The snowfall since last evening is listed here. At the foot of the mountain, snowfall has begun from rainfall, and the amount is about 20 cm in the upper part of the below treeline, but since a storm of westerly winds has begun to blow in the sky, it is necessary to consider the impact.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northern Nagano prefecture's northern wind, cloudy weather, and snow from the afternoon, and a maximum temperature of 5℃ (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), there was a snowfall of 15 cm in the past 12 hours with a temperature of -0.9℃ (as of 5:00). The Japan Meteorological Agency has announced comments on the possibility of heavy snowfall due to the strengthening of the winter type tomorrow.
