This is a very dangerous avalanche condition. Even if the weather shows signs of temporary recovery at the foot of the mountain, don't think that the stability of the snow is getting better along with it. Exiting the mountain field requires extremely careful route selection, conservative decision-making, and a large margin of safety using the terrain. Even in the forest zone, please be vigilant enough for the occurrence areas and runways within it. Also, as we have told you in the situation where avalanches occur, snow in closed areas is unstable even in ski resorts. When gliding on the slopes, please protect the area where you can slide.
Since yesterday (21st) there were no visitors due to severe stormy weather, there were no reports of avalanches occurring in the mountains. On the other hand, it has been reported that there have been multiple avalanches of storm slabs of size 1-2 during the safety management work of the ski resort. In the adjacent Hakuba Mountains, there is a report that we heard a loud noise that seems to be an avalanche from the direction of the Alpine area.
Many elements of instability have been observed on the south side of the Myoko Mountains. Strong snowfall is settling down, but since a very strong westerly wind is blowing in the sky and chills are also entering, the resolution of instability only proceeds slowly. Therefore, please think that the overall trend of snow cover is the same as the previous day.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting westerly winds, initially slightly stronger, snow, and a maximum temperature of 0°C (elevation 13m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Kanzan (altitude 350 m), the temperature was -3.6℃ (as of 5:00), and there was a snowfall of 13 cm in the past 12 hours.
