Very dangerous avalanche conditions are ongoing. If you have experience with mountains, you may have experienced settling (sinking movement) due to the passage of time, even a large amount of snowfall. This movement is a good sign at some times, but at other times “conditions are in place for a larger avalanche to occur.” Information on field observations above the forest limit is extremely limited, and there is a storm of westerly winds blowing in the sky. Snowfall has weakened slightly, but the probability of occurrence of avalanches of large magnitude remains sufficient, even if the frequency of occurrence decreases. Avoid places at low elevations where there are wind-affected slopes, large terrain, very steep slopes, and terrain traps. If you are inexperienced, it's a good day to enjoy fresh snow in the ski area. Have a safe day
Yesterday (22nd), many avalanches of size 1-1.5 were observed due to ski cuts in the below treeline. Also, at the southwestern edge of the mountain range, an avalanche of a size 2.5 storm slab caused by natural occurrence has been observed at an altitude of 1,500 m on the eastern slope.
Since a large amount of snowfall continues, instability that occurs one after another in the vicinity of the surface layer is responding to ski cuts, etc. It has been observed that instability has improved in part with respect to the lower layer of this heavy snowfall, but uncertainty is still high. Consider that there is a potential for large avalanches to occur.
The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts the northwest wind, rear, and west wind, snow, and sometimes cloudy from the evening, and the highest temperature of 2℃ (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Kanzan (altitude 350 m), the temperature was -3.6℃ (as of 5:00), and there was a 25 cm snowfall in the past 12 hours.
