Travel and Terrain Advice

Avalanche conditions are dangerous at high altitudes. Be wary of windslabs that are just forming. In addition, due to continuous strong winds, it becomes very difficult to estimate the induced sensitivity of a wind slab that has increased its hardness over time after formation. Ski cutting is dangerous, so don't try it. Breaks happen on their own. If you notice such a presence, use the terrain to get a margin of safety. Reduce the slope, avoid convex, isolated terrain, rock surroundings with thin snow cover, etc., which are easy to be triggering points. Because wind slabs are dense and heavy, they are very dangerous even if they are small. Observing the principle behavior, such as stopping in a safe zone or sliding one by one, will reduce accidents in the unlikely event of an accident. Have a safe day

概要

Avalanche

There were few people entering the mountain yesterday (23rd), and no the new avalanche were reported.

Snowpack

Mass snowfall has also subsided in the below treeline as of yesterday, and settling is proceeding rapidly at low elevations. In the vicinity of the main ridge, a very strong wind in the west with a slightly northern component is blowing continuously. As a result, shukabra etc. have been observed in the upper part of the below treeline, and its effects need to be considered. At elevations above the forest limit, uncertainty remains high due to the extremely limited observation data. However, due to observations in the upper part of the below treeline, the instability of stormy weather has begun to calm down, and it is prioritized It is believed that the concern is the formation of wind slabs.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts southern winds, daytime, northern winds, sunny weather, occasional cloudy, snow in some places, and a maximum temperature of 2℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. No new snowfall has been observed in the past 12 hours at the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m) at -7.7℃ (as of 5:00).
