Travel and Terrain Advice

Following yesterday, it's the first day of spring. Watch out for changes in snow during the day on slopes with low elevations and strong effects of solar radiation and warming. An avalanche of wet snow is so heavy that you can easily scoop up your feet, even if it's small. If there is a cliff, a shrund, or a swamp below it, it will be a serious ending. On the other hand, on the north side of the elevation, there is still dry snow, but be aware of the windslabs that remain in the extreme areas. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (2/28), a large number of wet snow point avalanches of size 1 were observed in the below treeline on the southerly slopes where the effects of daytime temperature rise and solar radiation were strong.

Snowpack

Yesterday, the snow in the forest zone suddenly became a spring condition. Due to the strong sunlight and rising temperatures, it became a stop snow during the day, and many point-generated wet snow avalanches occurred on the steep slopes due to surface snow that lost strength. On the north side of the elevation, there is still dry snow, but it is necessary to consider that there are still windslabs with a sluggish reaction in places that become terrain pockets.

Weather

The Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, rear, and west winds, cloudy, evening rain, and a maximum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Kanzan (altitude 350 m), the temperature is 2.2 degrees Celsius (as of 5 o'clock), and there is no new snowfall in the past 24 hours.
