Travel and Terrain Advice

Pay attention to the wind slabs that have formed locally on certain terrain. The influence of wind is very strong, and thin wind slabs may form right next to where the hard snow surface is exposed. Be wary of convex or isolated areas where snow cover tends to destabilize, or slabs forming very steep terrain. The condition of the snow surface is when hard snow surface and tight snow powder are mixed in the same terrain. When there is no light and it is difficult to recognize the snow surface condition, please be careful not to get stuck in the trap and fall. In the mountains, falls attract a variety of problems. The weather is clearly downhill. An action plan that takes that into account.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (3rd), point occurrence wet snow avalanches of size 1 and collapse of small-scale snow blocks were observed at low elevations.

Snowpack

At high altitudes, a very strong west to southwest wind blew yesterday. However, since the movable snow cover has also decreased, the formation of wind slabs is isolated, localized within a certain terrain, rather than a wide leeward slope. And this strong wind has also subsided in the wee hours. Places at very low altitudes, where the effects of heat rise and solar radiation are very strong, are in spring conditions.

Weather

The Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, daytime, northern winds, sunny weather, and occasional cloudy temperatures of 8°C (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Kanzan (altitude 350 m), the temperature is -0.8℃ (as of 5:00), and there is no new snowfall in the past 24 hours.
